Looking for a promotion? These are the 10 best and worst companies for career advancement

Every employee wants a promotion, but sometimes whether or not they actually get one depends on the company they're working for. 

It takes on average 30.4 months to get promoted in the world's largest corporations, according to resume template platform StandoutCV. In fact, most employees are due for a promotion with the average employee having worked in their current role for 48.6 months. 

In an effort to highlight the companies where employees have the most room for advancement, the platform ranked the best and worst firms based on promotion rates. Some of the companies are household names.

The company which had the highest percentage of promoted employees is Linde, a gas and engineering company. Roughly 57% of their workforce has been promoted, though it took, on average, five years for that to happen. That's higher than the overall average. Unilever, a consumer goods company, came second with a promotion rate of 54% and had a considerably shorter promotion wait time of 17.3 months. Pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly came in third place, with 52% of its employees getting a promotion. 

As for companies with the worst promotion rthe platform rankeates, the tech industry dominated the list. Google and Meta tied for first place with only 23% of their workforce having experienced a promotion. Apple, Amazon and Microsoft also made the top 10. However, despite having a lower-than-average promotion rate, Microsoft did have one of the shortest wait periods for advancement at only 16 months.
