A recent study from J&Y Law ranked the jobs with the best workplace protections. The study used reports by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, comparing nonfatal and fatal injury rates across industries as well as union representation within the industries.
The study also analyzed the unemployment rate, median salary and health insurance rate, or the percentage of jobs that provide health insurance for workers, provided by Zippia, Smartest Dollar and Statista to help determine a total score and rank for each industry.

Firefighting has the best workplace protections, earning the maximum score of 50. While it is a more dangerous profession, they have high health insurance and life insurance rates. Additionally, this profession has a high union representation rate and low unemployment rate.
Other careers with the best workplace protections include actuaries and patrol officers. Actuaries earned a score of 46.33 and have a low unemployment rate, as well as a high median salary. Patrol officers earned a score of 46.14 and have a high union representation rate, health insurance rate and life insurance rate.
