Artificial intelligence technology is being utilized in everything from email spam filters to self-driving cars — and as AI becomes increasingly more integral to our everyday lives, job opportunities are bound to grow.
A decade ago, AI jobs only accounted for 0.3% of U.S. job postings. But as of 2021, that number has jumped to 0.9%, according to Stanford’s 2022 AI Index Report. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates there will be a 15% increase in AI jobs by 2029. Personal finance management site MoneyTransfers.com examined which states in the U.S. have the biggest number of AI jobs available, using data from labor analytics firm Emsi Burning Glass. Emsi looked at 45,000 websites in 2021, noting job posts that required AI-related skills, such as remote sensing, automatic speech recognition, and path planning.
“AI has of course been developing for many years, but there have never been more new jobs in the field,” says Jonathan Merry, CEO of MoneyTransfers.com. “With the pandemic sparking the ‘Great Resignation,’ people changing careers, and now also facing the challenges of inflation, we think the research is an important look at employment trends and useful data for anyone considering a career move.”

AI jobs are not spread across the U.S. evenly. California, which took the number one spot, had just a little over 80,000 AI job postings, giving the state around 46,000 more opportunities for employment than Texas, which ranked second on the list.
