In the wake of the pandemic, the job search is on for restless employees looking to enrich their lives with a career change and a salary to match.

In June 2021, four million workers resigned from their jobs according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. And although job satisfaction and happiness is top of mind for employees when it comes to new opportunities, more flexibility and a bigger paycheck wouldn’t hurt, either.

But finding high paying jobs requires some know-how. According to a recent survey conducted by employment website CareerBuilder, factors such as local house prices, the cost of living and the availability of candidates all play a part in your pay packet, with some cities offering a much more competitive average salary than others.

For workers looking for a financial boost, CareerBuilder ranked 10 cities with the highest average salaries for employees. The average salary in the U.S. is approximately $50,000 a year, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But these top cities offer employees much more generous pay for in-demand jobs, many in cultural hotspots.

Which is why California has managed to snag not one, but three spots on the list — San Francisco, San Jose and Los Angeles. Home to Silicon Valley, jobs in the area are built around the need for IT and computing experts, according to the survey. In response, the state is made up of startups and large companies that need to fill enough roles to keep up with the rising demand.
