As people continue to make career pivots as part of the Great Resignation, the tech industry is a coveted place to land — but not all opportunities are created equal, and the location of these jobs will have an enormous impact on workers’ experience.
The projected growth rate for tech jobs over the next decade is nearly twice the national jobs rate, according to recent data from the the Computing Technology Industry Association. In 2022 alone, the industry is expected to add 178,000 new jobs. For a growing community of workers, interest in these jobs is fueled by the promise of high salaries, combined with accessible coding courses that are creating new inroads to the tech space.

To provide guidance for job seekers, IT service automation company SysAid recently analyzed data and curated a list of the top states for tech-job applicants, based on factors such as desirability, average internet speed and coverage, the number of available jobs and the industry’s average salary compared to the state average. The results? Feasibility of working in tech “[varies] massively between states,” the report found.
Despite the preconceived notion that Silicon Valley and the West Coast are industry titans, the East Coast holds seven of the 10 spots, according to the data. See where — and how — SysAid ranked the states below:
