Job postings that mention “inclusivity” and emphasize that employees of all genders and sexual orientations are encouraged to apply are becoming commonplace — among the 8.3 million postings job search site Adzuna analyzed in a recent survey, 31% of postings are actively promoting LGBTQ inclusivity within the workplace.

The platform sought to identify states, cities and job industries that are the most welcoming to the LGBTQ community. Alaska topped the list of states — 54% of open job postings specifically listed “LGBTQ inclusivity” within their postings, Adzuna found. Perhaps unsurprisingly, due to Florida’s recent “Don’t say gay” law, the state was toward the bottom on the rankings, with just a quarter of their
“We’re happy to see many U.S. job ads actively showing support for the LGBTQ community, but much more needs to be done to support diverse hiring and to encourage equality,” Paul Lewis, chief customer officer at Adzuna, said in a release. “More U.S. employers need to become allies to the LGBTQ community by openly showing support for its members throughout the hiring process through to onboarding, and by creating more inclusive work environments.”

Adzuna found that consultancy, IT and HR and recruitment sectors are the most inclusive of LGBTQ. Tech companies including Oracle and Amazon had tens of thousands of job postings highlighting inclusivity. While this is progress, it must become the way all businesses operate, Lewis said.
“Encouraging and supporting different diverse groups to apply into jobs is crucial to wider equality — it’s what modern employees want,” Lewis said. “There should be no hesitation in hiring diverse applicants for open positions: broadening the talent pool is a great way to bring different perspectives and ideas to a company.”
