New Hampshire and Alaska most affordable states for Gen Zers

While across the United States, members of Gen Z are struggling to make ends meet, some states prove to be significantly more affordable than others. 

The average member of Gen Z makes $1,600 less than needed to cover basic living expenses, according to research compiled by Hostinger. Data from analytics company PYMNTS shows more than half of them report living paycheck to paycheck, affecting their ability to plan for future savings, healthcare and education costs.  In states such as New York, the problem is aggravated. There, homeowners under 25 are especially impacted, currently earning about $6,000 less than needed to account for basic living expenses, according to Hostinger.

To create some more wiggle room, many young professionals are taking on side gigs and delaying home ownership. But, by simply moving to a more affordable region, young professionals can begin to take a big step towards financial freedom. To help, here are the top ten most affordable states for Gen Z, ranked in order.

New Hampshire

Average salary for those under 25:  $52,926; average cost of living: $36,026

Alaska

Average salary for those under 25: $44,078; average cost of living: $35,000

Nevada

Average salary for those under 25:  $43,000; average cost of living: $33,779

Utah

Average salary for those under 2:  $44,000; average cost of living: $35,318

Washington

Average salary for those under 25: $45,745; average cost of living: $38,000
