Employers are desperate to retain employees amid a tumultuous job market, and for many that has meant getting unconventional with their benefit offerings.
From rock climbing walls and laundry facilities to employee malls and beauty salons, a new survey from online language learning marketplace Preply found, tracked and scored the most unusual benefits at some of the largest household names. The results were nothing short of surprising.
"Companies may lose sight of why benefits packages are so important to a company's growth, but it's simple," said Andreas Kyprianou, senior director of people ops, total rewards and analytics at Preply in a release. "Top performers drive tangible business impact, and they're going to go where they feel most appreciated and taken care of."

Parental support seems to be top of mind for companies, with benefits like baby milk shipping and baby bonding bucks landing the first and second slots of Preply's ranking. Breastfeeding employees at X and Jonhson & Johnson have the option to ship their breast milk back to their baby when traveling free of cost, and families working at Google are awarded a stipend of up to $502 to spend on things like meal delivery or cleaning services in the weeks after welcoming a new baby.
For the most part, these investments are paying off. Among the companies that made the top 10, Preply found that, on average, they had a lower employee turnover rate at 11.91% compared to that of the other companies on the list at 14.70%. Even the average gross profit margins across those companies were slightly higher at 68.84%, compared to the 62.22% overall.
