For people across the country, flexibility is key to a desirable work experience. But as more employers push for a return to office two years into the COVID pandemic, remote options may become increasingly rare.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that for the first time since the start of the pandemic, the amount of people working from home has dropped below 10% — the record high was 35% in May of 2020. Yet, as new omicron subvariants increase COVID hospitalizations by 18% in the last month, and Monkeypox, the latest viral infection, hits the U.S., there are plenty of reasons to stay home. So, what jobs still offer that coveted flexibility?
Flexjobs, a remote job search site, analyzed its database and determined which job titles have the best chance of being listed as “freelance,” with the option to work remotely. From there, Flexjobs identified which of these jobs had the highest recruitment rate in the first five months of 2022.

“Businesses hiring for these job titles have largely shifted in the way they’ve conducted work over the past couple of years,” says Kathy Gardner, vice president of communications at Flexjobs. “And in many cases, careers in recruiting, customer service and project management — all of which can be easily performed from home — among others, now face a much larger demand for their services, which has led to the increase in remote freelance hiring.”
