Financial security is an essential part of overall wellness, and while salary isn't the only factor in this equation, some jobs set people up for success more than others.

For women especially, financial wellness can be a challenge. Factors such as the gender wage gap, inflation, healthcare, debt, and child care costs can make it difficult to make ends meet, let alone have money left over for savings and retirement. A 2023 study by Northwestern Mutual Planning and Progress found that only 40% of women feel financially stable, and less than half feel they will have enough saved for retirement when the time comes.

To help bridge the deficit, Resume Genius put together a list of the highest paying jobs for 2024 where women hold more than 50% of the positions, based on information from the U.S. Department of Labor's Women's Bureau and salary data from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. The majority of the jobs are in the healthcare industry and almost all are people-facing — areas where women traditionally tend to thrive, says Resume Genius career expert Eva Chan.

"These roles often require a high degree of empathy, communication skills and the ability to build trust quickly with patients or clients — qualities that women have been shown to excel in," she says. "Women's success in these fields also reflects the broader shift toward more companies valuing the growing importance of soft skills in addition to technical expertise."

While all of the jobs on Resume Genius's list come with salaries well above the national average, Chan reminds job seekers to keep in mind the other categories that contribute to financial independence, such as student loan debt and to start saving for retirement as soon as possible.

"Even small contributions to a savings or retirement account can grow significantly over time thanks to compound interest," says Chan. "The internet is packed with free resources that can teach you about managing your finances, from budgeting to understanding the latest pay transparency laws to investing. One more step toward financial empowerment is seeking advice when needed. This can look like consulting with an advisor, a mentor, or joining financial wellness clubs, events and workshops."
