Quantum and Cariloop team up to offer more resources for working caregivers

In recognition of the growing need to assist working caregivers, healthcare navigation platform Quantum Health has partnered with Cariloop to offer a full spectrum of caregiving support to its members through a single point of access.

Research estimates that nearly 73% of the workforce identify as caregivers, who spend more than 24 hours a week caring for a loved one. The time and cost of this can prove overwhelming, and leave employees with missed work, decreased productivity and high levels of stress and anxiety. In turn, employers are feeling the strain as the direct effects of these issues are expected to cost businesses over $50 billion per year.

For employee caregivers, the most important thing is the support they have along the way, and this partnership reflects both Cariloop and Quantum's ethos that no one should go on these journeys alone. Together they now make up an integrated platform that offers a combination of digital tools and compassionate experts who go the extra mile for those looking after their loved ones.

"Caregiving is intensely personal," says Zane Burke, CEO of Quantum. "Everyone needs a relief valve when we're doing that, and that's what the Cariloop and Quantum partnership can allow — a deeper level of service and capability."

Quantum members can now access Cariloop's "Care Coaches" on the same platform they access other healthcare benefits and programs, streamlining benefits navigation and enabling members to manage their health and caregiving responsibilities in one place.

"Quantum already understands the importance of integrating caregiving support with a comprehensive offering," says Julie Devine, Cariloop's chief growth officer. "We can bring these services together to create a more holistic experience for the members — we now have a village instead of just a single warrior."

Launched in 2012, Cariloop's goal has been to assist caregivers in any way they need, using a combination of empathy and expertise, particularly when it comes to next steps of care and dealing with the ongoing time and financial commitment. Cariloop's team of Care Coaches will now work alongside Quantum's dedicated Healthcare Warriors who, using the platform's Real Time Interceptor AI program, help their two million members navigate both the clinical and benefits sides of healthcare.

For Cariloop, the need to support employers came with the realization that the majority of caregiver research and resource coordination was happening during the work day, says Devine.

"There is an inherent natural overlap to when the most productive caregiving support can happen," Devine says. "So if I want to be present at work, being able to release myself of some of that research and coordination is critical."

The nature of caregiving varies greatly, and thus flexibility and caregiver benefits within the workplace is a valuable recruiting and retention tool. But basic benefits — paid time off, the ability to work from home — aren't always enough to help caregivers stay afloat. The combination of personal touch and digitized tools has been a successful strategy for Quantum, which sees an overall 85% household engagement. Through multiple points of connection with members, important information that typically hits the cutting room floor with other benefits providers, Burke says, is noticed and acted upon.

"Part of the power of the model is being more contextually aware," he says. "We do work on the front side to gather information, meeting members in their life flow, and it allows for the opportunity to provide a better outcome."

This aligns with Cariloop's broad interpretation of caregiver support, which can be anything from helping find the right type of medical care for a loved one to seeking community resources that provide food and transportation. Members can use Cariloop for anyone they care for, whether that person is on their benefits plan or not.

For those balancing caregiving and work, the right benefits can determine whether they are healthy and productive, and in some cases, whether they leave or stay with an employer. Regardless of how simple or complicated their situation may be, an offering that provides all levels of support helps to ensure that employees have what they need when they need it.

"No matter how big or small, a caregiving support platform plus a human connection with a coach is a winning support model," Devine says. "Caregiving is not linear, it is not transactional, it ebbs and flows. Coaches are there to help validate, help reinforce, cross-check — whatever you might need."
