1. Employees want to feel empowered with control and authority to do their jobs

Of the more than 418 Americans surveyed, Korn Ferry finds that less than 60% say they are rewarded for a job well-done.

“I think going forward what we’re seeing, especially with millennials, money is not what drives them,” says Damon. “What drives them is that 1) they want to make a difference and 2) they want to feel like what they are doing is important, and they also want to feel like they are growing personally.”

2. Workplaces should create an atmosphere where workers want to stay

While 54% of Korn Ferry’s participants said their workplace's atmosphere is welcoming enough to stay, approximately 15% said no and 31% were unsure about their future plans.

“Companies need to think about careers and making interesting roles for people in a different way,” Damon explains.

3. Employees want to be heard

Korn Ferry finds that approximately 35% of report that their company leaders are not good listeners.

“The new way of thinking about creating opportunities for growth for people is to think about the organization chart as a jungle gym,” says Damon. “You don’t always have to go up to grow.”
